Roles Management
This screen allows administrators to manage user roles in the Oracle Insurance Rules Workbench system. Each role defines a set of permissions that govern what a user assigned to that role can view or do within the application.
The Roles screen in Oracle Insurance Rules Workbench allows administrators to define and manage user roles. Each role consists of a set of permissions that control which features and actions users can access within the application.
Roles Available in the Initial Setup
When Oracle Insurance Rules Workbench is launched for the first time, the system creates a set of predefined roles. Each role comes with a fixed set of privileges that determine what actions the user assigned to that role can perform.
Predefined Roles and Their Privileges

admin (Super User)

Has full control over user management.

Can create new users and assign roles across environments.

Cannot create or manage environments.
-
Typically used for platform-wide user and role administration.

build_manager
-
Manages environment setup and configuration.

Creates new environments within Rules Workbench.

Assigns the First User (Security Manager) during environment creation.

Cannot create users or assign roles.
-

configurer
-
Becomes available upon user creation or import into an environment.

Manages rule configuration within accessible environments.
-
Can add or modify rules but cannot create users, roles, or environments.

Privileges are limited to rule content management and migration functions.

outbound_admin
-
Reserved for internal service-to-service communication; enables communication between Rules Workbench and Release Management services.

Intended for outbound microservice access; not assigned to standard users.

Roles Screen - Layout
Upon entering the Roles screen in the Oracle Insurance Rules Workbench, the interface presents a clean and structured layout designed for clarity and ease of access. This screen is primarily used by administrators to manage roles and control user permissions across the platform.

Top-Right Main Menu

Users Icon: Opens user management.

Roles Icon: Opens roles management.

Roles (Left panel)

Panel Name: Roles - A categorized list of all roles available in the system.

'+' Icon - Create New : Opens a form to define a new role, including name, permissions, and associated users.

Alphabetical Navigation (A–Z): Enables quick filtering of roles by their starting letter.

Role List: Displays all existing roles grouped alphabetically (e.g., admin, configurer, build_manager,outbound_admin).

Details (Right Panel)

Panel Name: Details - Appears blank by default. Populates with role information.

Steps to Create a Role
Pre-requisite: The logged-in account must have the admin role assigned.

Log in to the Oracle Insurance Rules Workbench web URL using admin credentials.

On the Landing Page, click the Roles menu from the top-right.

In the Roles panel, click the '+' Icon to create a new role.

In the Details panel, enter a name in the Role Name field (mandatory).

Under the Privileges tab, review the list of Available privileges.

Scroll using the mouse or arrow keys.

To select multiple privileges, hold the Ctrl key while clicking.

Use the right arrow → to move selected privileges to the Assigned privileges panel. To remove privileges, use the left arrow ←.

Click Create to save the new role.

The new role appears in the alphabetized list on the left.
Editing or Deleting a Role
Pre-requisite: The logged-in account must have the admin role assigned.

To edit a role, select a role from the Roles panel on the left.

The selected role opens in the Details panel on the right.
-
The Role Name is displayed but cannot be edited once the role is created.

Use the Privileges tab to manage permissions.

The left pane shows Available privileges. The right pane shows Assigned privileges.

Use the arrow buttons (→ / ←) to move privileges between the lists.

Click Update to apply all changes made (or)

Click Delete to permanently remove the selected role, and this action cannot be undone.
